Golf Cart Repair
Golf cart repair is an easy and affordable way to keep your vehicle in good running condition. Regular maintenance is needed on golf carts in order for them to operate properly, but this ends up saving both valuable time and money on buying new parts and accessories for your model. Here are some tips to help you maintain and repair either your electric or gas-powered golf cart so that you can keep taking it to the course.
General Golf Cart Maintenance
A common golf cart repair is the replacement of the air-filled tires. When they blow out they can be fixed with rubber patching kits. Most of the golf vehicle's tires are connected to the mount with lug nuts that can easily be detached with a standard wrench. However this often expensive procedure can be avoided by taking pre-cautions and performing standard maintenance. Different types of tires are available for purchase dependent on what specific activities and purposes you are planning to use the vehicle for.
Off-road tube tires for example will not be nearly as effective when driving on the highway as tires intended for long distance road travel are and can lead to the tube tire losing a large amount of air. Field, mud, and trail tires exist as well, made specifically for the terrains that they will be used on to prevent air loss. If air-filled tires are part of your vehicle model, you should periodically check them to ensure that they are filled at their suggested air pressure levels. Remember that too much air is just as bad as too little and either condition will cause the rubber to wear prematurely and require golf cart repair. Other parts of the golf cart that may need regular maintenance include the seats and golf cart lights.
Motorized Vehicle Repair
In a standard gas-powered vehicle model, golf cart repair is often needed on the spark plugs that are located on the inside of the engine. Spark plugs are important since they light the gasoline that enters the engine, powering the motorized vehicle. A damaged spark plug will misfire if it isn't repaired soon enough and quickly lead to signs of breakdown such as making the engine cough or sputter and creating general problems with how the motorized vehicle runs.
Spark plugs typically fault as a result of oil, carbon and other pollutants that get stuck on them. Repair on these items once they fault can be done by purchasing and installing new plugs. However, by taking the initiative to check you're the spark plugs for these substances every so often will avert the need for golf cart repair on these accessories in the near future.
Electric Cart Problems
The most common issue that requires the repair of an electric-powered vehicle is the malfunctioning of the battery. The battery can be charged, depleted and then recharged many times before it has to undergo repair or replacement. However, it eventually will fail to run correctly and golf cart repair will be necessary in order to restore the vehicle to a working condition.
If the golf cart is not starting up, checking the battery terminals is the first step you should take in determining the problem. If the terminals appear to be clean and are attached properly, do a test to determine the water level in the battery. If it is low, refill it with the necessary amount of distilled water to get it back to the recommended level. This generally means that the plates inside the battery of the golf cart should be covered with water. However, overfilling the battery terminals with too much water may lead to golf cart repair much sooner than is necessary since it will damage the electric cart.
Another typical problem that may occur and which often requires golf cart repair is acid leakage from the cracked batteries. Check the inside of your model for streaks of acid around the edges and sides of your cart's battery case to find out if a rupture has compromised it. If you find any indication of acid leakage you will be unable to repair the battery's case and therefore must purchase a new one to replace it with.
A broken case may also result in the spreading of the acid to the other parts and accessories of the model and damage them as well. Be sure to inspect these other model components if you notice that there is any amount of acid flowing or dripping out of the battery's case. You can neutralize this acid early on before it spreads by using a rag soaked with a solution of both regular baking soda and tap water, being sure not to get the mixture on the inside of the battery as this will lead to much more expensive golf cart repair.
