Golf Cart Lights
Golf cart lights have become increasingly popular as a personal purchase, especially with the growing interest in modifying golf carts. Upgrading or replacing lights from stock to newly designed accessories is a great way to set your vehicle apart from the rest, and provides safe transportation around your property and golf cart enclosures or neighborhood during the night. Golf cart lights are available for purchase in affordable kits that are built for all types of custom golf cart models and frames.
If you plan on using the golf cart out in public, you should keep in mind that mounting golf cart lights to the vehicle is a mandatory procedure in order for the golf cart to be considered street legal under federal law. Headlights and brake lights are typically the lights installed into custom golf carts so that the vehicles comply with the state and national laws. Buying these accessories is much cheaper than paying hefty fines for not obeying the regulations in place.
It is also important to note that some light kits that are being manufactured and sold only work with certain models or types of vehicles that they are created for exclusively. For example, most of the name brand manufacturers will produce a distinct line of light kits for own their models that won't perform when applied to a model that is outside of the brand that they were designed for. This is the case with models like the DS, where an LED tail light may only work with the manufactured vehicle design that it was specifically intended to be used with.
However, the prices of the custom vehicle light kits are very low in cost. They also last much longer than the stock lighting that is originally issued to the model's body. Once you have gathered a number of reliable quotes and found high quality golf cart lights that fit both your model and your budget, you can get started making a custom golf cart not only free from expensive tickets but from being bound to the course or to your property.
Installation Process
Choosing where you are going to mount the custom headlights and taillights on the cart is the first step to putting in the new golf cart lights that you purchased and a subject you should put some serious thought in to. You can simply mark the spots that you wish to drill the mounting holes with an ordinary pencil or dry-erase marker. Many of the kits being sold on the market for golf cart lights include a template for the marking so that you can easily position the lights on the vehicle's body correctly.
Drilling the mounting holes on the vehicle is the next step in the process of installing the new parts and accessories. This can be done with a regular 5/16-inch drill bit. It's important to drill as closely to the marks you've made as possible. This accuracy makes all the difference when the vehicle's lighting is put to the test when driving during the night.
You can then proceed to feed the light kit through the holes that you have made in the model's frame. The cable ties from the kit will then need to be used in order to secure the position of the golf cart lights. The lights must then be attached to the lighting harness that is included in the kit as well. A basic light kit that you buy will usually come with a 36-volt to a 12-volt reducer which lowers the energy output in order for the lighting harness to function properly.
Putting in the lights through the mounting holes that you drilled on the front of the cart is done after you have the harness appropriately installed. The taillights may then be inserted into the holes and are designed to link to the lighting harness using the provided snap connectors. Follow this with drilling more mounting holes in the dash of the vehicle's frame. These will be used for the on and off switch for the golf cart lights. A 15/32-inch drill bit is the going to be needed in order to complete this.
After the hole is drilled through the body the switch can be fastened tightly with a nut and washer. It's essential that you attach the on and off switch to the lighting harness through the use of the snap connectors in the kit so that they remain in position. Also, be sure to connect the negative lead from the lighting harness voltage reducer to the last lead battery in the bank. Connect the positive lead to the terminal on the same battery as well. When all of the necessary attachments are arranged correctly and fastened, the installation of the new golf cart lights is complete.
